NEWS RELEASE

CALIFORNIA LAW ENFORCEMENT MAKING QUICK WORK OF CLETS
WITH NEW LEADSONLINE-ENABLED AUTOMATED INTERFACE TO DOJ

DALLAS, December 9, 2005 – LeadsOnline, the nation’s largest web-based investigative system used by law enforcement to solve crimes involving property is enabling California law enforcement agencies to share information and make more effective use of CLETS (California Law Enforcement Telecommunications Service) through a recently launched state crime information center data transfer service.

Law enforcement agencies throughout the state of California can now rapidly compare merchandise from pawn and secondhand stores in their jurisdiction to the statewide stolen property database operated by the California Department of Justice (DOJ). With LeadsOnline service, investigators can much more quickly identify suspects and property involved in reported crimes across the state.

Historically, California investigators and administrative staff have manually collected thousands of paper tickets from pawn stores in their respective jurisdictions, and then hand-sorted and input the receipts into the CLETS system. This involved matching every item to one of thousands of brand codes and CLETS codes – all by hand. In many cases, agencies found this administrative task so time-consuming that they would be forced to ignore the opportunity to compare pawn and second-hand store transaction records with the state’s stolen property records.

LeadsOnline automatically obtains the pawn records, creates an electronic file featuring the correct brand and CLETS codes for each item, and allows agency personnel to automatically transmit the electronic files in batch form from their agency, through the CLETS switch, directly to DOJ.

Says Santa Maria, California Police Chief Danny Macagni, “This is a vast improvement over the way we once entered information, and has saved countless staff hours. It has made the information shared by California law enforcement agencies, as well as the service we receive through CLETS/DOJ far more useful in solving crimes.”

Law enforcement agencies in Missouri, Alabama, Texas and Washington State currently recover hundreds of thousands of dollars in stolen property annually using LeadsOnline’s interfaces to their respective state crime centers. LeadsOnline is pleased to support law enforcement agencies in California, providing additional hope for justice and restitution to crime victims throughout the state.
