Online law enforcement database to include info from Internet (eBay) drop-off stores
DALLAS, February 22, 2006 – eBay, the world’s online marketplace, has partnered with LeadsOnline, the nation’s largest investigative system used by law enforcement to solve crimes involving property, to make listings from Internet (eBay) drop-off stores available for review in appropriate law enforcement investigations. eBay made the decision to proactively make this information available to keep its members safe and to further its aggressive efforts to prevent illegal transactions on its website. Through LeadsOnline’s state of the art approach to working with law enforcement, eBay can ensure both that the privacy of its users is protected and that law enforcement has an efficient way to conduct investigations.
Effective immediately, eBay automatically transfers listings daily to LeadsOnline from major drop-off stores. Law enforcement agencies may request that additional drop-off stores in their jurisdictions be added by contacting LeadsOnline directly.
eBay’s decision to add Internet drop-off stores to the LeadsOnline database creates an efficient ‘one-stop shopping’ experience for law enforcement – providing investigators with pawn, secondhand and Internet drop-off store information in one convenient, browser-based location. Investigators may search for stolen property and suspects literally around the country from the convenience of their desks, with timely access to specific information which may be helpful in solving crimes.
Says Captain Harry Griffin of the San Antonio, Texas Police Department, “We’ve seen significant improvements in our case clearance and property recovery rates since implementing LeadsOnline’s pawn and secondhand investigative service in December 2004. We appreciate eBay’s support in adding the drop-off stores to LeadsOnline. Their participation helps our Criminal Investigation Division operate even more efficiently and enables us to deliver a higher level of service to the citizens of San Antonio.”
