Waco police have decided
to go cyber-space when it comes to cracking down on property theft crimes.
The police department is now part of a nationwide property database called "LeadsOnline".
Detectives have access to the inventories of pawn shops, second-hand stores and scrap metal shops both locally and nationwide. And they say you can help by taking inventory of your property.
"We encourage citizens to write down their serial numbers so that if in the unfortunate event occurs something is stolen from them that can provide the serial number and a good description to the police department so that we can try to return their property to them."
Waco Police Sergeant Ryan Holt said. Waco police have recovered items in more than 12 cases from local pawn shops and stores in other Central Texas towns.
