Police recover stolen property found in south San Antonio

Gabriel Valdez 05.SEP.07

FLORESVILLE — The police department is closer to solving two recent burglaries after recovering

stolen goods that were sold by burglars in south San Antonio.

The Maverick Golf Club was broken into Aug. 9, resulting in $450 worth of repairs and the theft of

three Callaway golf club bags valued at a total of $2,000.

An employee of the Riverside Golf Club in San Antonio contacted the Maverick Golf Club after

purchasing what he believed to be one of these Callaway bags.

The police’s suspect, a 6-foot African-American male in his 40s, entered the Riverside Golf

Club trying to sell the sets of golf clubs. He was asked to leave by club employees due to soliciting

rules, but one employee followed the suspect to his car. The employee bought one set of clubs,

but noticed a metal Maverick Golf Club tag on the bag before the suspect pulled it off.

The second burglary took place on June 11, when a television, DVDs, and a VCR were stolen from

a residence. Detective Jesse Evins located the television at a south San Antonio pawn shop, which

gave Evins and Detective Chad Clark the name of the seller.

“Pawn shops are still a thief’s best friend,” Evins said.

In both cases, the property has been returned to its rightful owners, and the suspects are still being

sought.

Floresville, Texas Follow-Up:

In August 2007 the Maverick Golf Course Pro Shop in Floresville, TX was broken into.

Thieves stole three sets of Calloway Clubs, valued approximately $5,000.00.

There were few leads in the case.  Floresville PD Detective Chad Clark used

LeadsOnline to try and locate the golf clubs.  Clark got a hit on LeadsOnline and

was able to recover most of the golf clubs (approx $4000.00 worth) from a pawn shop

in San Antonio, TX.  From that Clark was able to get information on the suspect.  A

warrant has been issued for the suspect's arrest and the clubs were returned to Maverick's

Golf Course.
