LeadsOnline Captures Copper Thief
(9/26/2007)
Timothy Clayton Harris was charged last week with grand larceny in the theft of
1,000 pounds of copper wire. He is currently at the Raymond Detention Center.
The capture of Harris can be credited to LeadsOnline’s Metal Theft software.
“I ran Harris’ name through LeadsOnline and got an immediate hit,” states
Captain Steve Bailey with the Hinds County Sheriff’s Department. “He sold
the copper at two recycling businesses, the Can Man and Cash for Cans.
Both businesses entered his name which enabled us to find him.”
Metal theft is a growing problem in the Metro Jackson area, exacerbating an
already serious property crime crisis. “We also need to give credit to a very
alert citizen who called in a suspicious vehicle,” states Bailey.
Harris got out of jail in March of 2007 and apparently began selling copper
in April 2007. The theft of the copper took place over a five month period.
