Van Buren PD arrests high school janitor on suspicion of felony theft

Janitor Stole From Van Buren School, Police Say

By Times Record Staff

August 13, 2011

A janitor at Van Buren High School was arrested Friday after police say he stole $3,000 in electronics from the school and sold them to a local pawn shop.

The school reported $3,000 in electronics had been stolen from the school's fine arts center on Wednesday, and an investigator assigned to the case found that the items had been pawned by Nathan Daniel Moore, 23, according to Detective Jonathan Wear, public information officer for the Van Buren Police Department.

Moore turned himself in Friday afternoon and was arrested on suspicion of felony theft of property.

Wear said he stole a projector, a spotlight and a ham radio.

"It's a huge spotlight, and it's for the fine arts center for their productions," Wear said of the $2,000 spotlight. "It's a big spotlight, and it's expensive."

Moore is currently being held at the Crawford County Adult Detention Center.
