Installing and Troubleshooting the LeadsOnline Secure Export Service

PRE-REQUISITEThis service requires that the Microsoft .NET v1.1 Redistributable Runtime is installed on your system. This is a free download from Microsoft and is available via your Windows Update service, or from this link. Depending on your machine’s configuration you may be required to re-boot after installing this update prior to continuing.

PRIOR VERSIONSIt is recommended that you first un-install any prior versions of the LeadsOnline Secure Export Service before installing this version. To do so, go to "Settings", "Control Panel", "Add/Remove Programs", and scroll down the list of items to the "SecureLeadsExportSetup" row. Click on this row and then click the "Remove" button that appears.

CREATE FOLDERThis program monitors for files that appear in the "C:\in" folder. Create this folder on your hard drive if it does not exist. If you cannot use this folder for your exports, see the section below on configuring the service.

DOWNLOADIf you will be transmitting files with "*.txt" extensions, click here. If you will be transmitting files with "*.xml" extensions, click here. When the dialog box appears choose "Save" and select a convenient location on your hard drive.

EXTRACTDouble-click on the file downloaded in the prior step. Extract the files into a convenient folder on your hard drive.

INSTALLLocate the "setup.exe" program in the folder from the prior step. Double-click it to begin the installation. It is recommended that you accept all defaults during the installation process.

START SERVICEYou can start the Secure Export service in one of two ways. Either
  • Re-boot your machine, or
  • Go to "Settings", "Control Panel", "Administrative Tools", "Services" and locate the "LeadsOnline Secure Export" entry. Right-click and select "Start". Note that the service should be set to "automatic".

TESTIf you have a small test file with the proper file extension ready to upload, you can now place it into the monitored folder ("C:\in").Within approximately one minute (depending on the size of the file) the file should be deleted, which indicates a successful upload to the LeadsOnline web site. This completes the installation. IMPORTANT: It is critical that the files being transmitted are named properly. If you have not obtained file naming information, please contact LeadsOnline Technical Support at 972-361-0900 or at support@leadsonline.com prior to uploading.

TROUBLE-
SHOOTING
If the test file remains in the "C:\in" for several minutes, it is an indication that the Secure Export service was not able to upload the file. Check the following:
  • Are you placing the file into the correct folder (C:\in)?
  • Does the file have the proper extension (*.txt or *.xml depending upon which download you selected above)? If you don't see your file extensions in Windows Explorer, select "Tools", "Folder Options", then click the "View" tab. Make sure the "Hide file extensions for known file types" option is unchecked. Click "OK".
  • Is the Secure Export service running? Go to "Settings", "Control Panel", "Administrative Tools", "Services" and locate the "LeadsOnline Secure Export" entry. Make sure that "Started" appears in the "Status" column.
  • Make sure you have proper Internet Connectivity. Can you open your browser and successfully bring up the following URL?
    https://www.leadsonline.com/import/importwebservice/importwebservice.asmx
You should get a web page in your browser with the title "ImportWebService" at the top. If not, your workstation is unable to achieve Internet connectivity and you should contact your Network Administrator to correct the problem.

CONFIGUREUse this section ONLY if you cannot use the default folder location "C:\in" to place the files you which to transmit. Warning: The configuration file is an XML file that must be well-formed in order for the Secure Export service to run properly. Use great care when modifying it, and always make a back-up copy of it. If you accepted the defaults during installation, the configuration file is located at "C:\Program Files\Leadsonline\SecureLeadsExportSetup\SecureLeadsExport.exe.config". Open the file with Notepad and change the value of the "MonitorPath" setting from "C:\in" to the desired local folder or network share name. Save the file and re-start the LeadsOnline service.
You may also note that the "MonitorFileExtension" setting will be set to either "*.txt" or "*.xml" depending upon which version you downloaded (this is the only real difference between the two downloads). Note that the program will not recognize any other file extensions except these.
