Web Site Leads To Recovery Of Stolen Goods In Spartanburg

By Staff Reports

September 29, 2010

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – An Upstate man comes home from work only to find that some of his most prized possessions had been stolen, but with help from a website deputies may have both solved the case and gotten some of the victim's items back.

The Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office uses leadsonlinecom.

Deputies will input stolen item's serial numbers and descriptions and if someone is trying to sell them at pawn shops or online, authorities will be notified.

In Terry Pike's case, a couple of his five stolen guitars popped up at two First Cash Pawn Shop locations in Spartanburg.

What's even better, according to the sheriff's office, when you try to sell something to a pawn shop in South Carolina you need a picture ID.

In Pike's case the sheriff's office says they have a suspect they will be looking for to arrest.

Tony Ivey of the Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office says at least once a week they recover stolen property through leadsonline.com.

He adds that the program is available to any law enforcement department in the country.
