FLORENCE, AZ (CBS5) – The Pinal County Sheriff's Office has unveiled a free online system allowing residents the ability to keep track of valuable personal property.
The ReportIt system allows people the ability to record serial numbers and upload images for phones, electronics, and other valuables. If those items were ever stolen, deputies said, having that information stored in a safe place, could increase the odds of having the items recovered.
"Usually within hours of stealing items, suspects are trying to sell what they have stolen. Many times after individuals have their property stolen, they have to begin the process of looking for photos and serial numbers of their missing property," Sheriff Paul Babeu said. "The ability to have photos and serial numbers immediately after a crime is committed will help us recover property quicker and arrest those responsible for these crimes."
The ReportIt service is a part of LeadsOnline, the online system police across the country use to track and recover stolen property.
Within the past four months using LeadsOnline, Pinal County detectives have helped track down and identify more than $10,146 worth of stolen property.
Citizens can store an unlimited number of serial numbers, item descriptions, pictures and receipts. This record can also be helpful when filing out insurance claims.
Citizens wanting to participate in ReportIt can register for free at reportit.leadsonline.com.
