SAN ANTONIO – A handyman who a South Side couple hired to do some backyard work is accused of entering their home and stealing, police say. Joseph Alan Alva, 30, was arrested Monday on a theft charge.
The couple filed a report with San Antonio police last month, saying someone had stolen more than $6,400 worth of jewelry from their home while they were out, an arrest affidavit stated.
They said a relative told them while they were out, Alva, who lived in an apartment on the same property on Big Foot Street, had come into the home and gone into a back room, the affidavit stated.
When they returned home, the couple said they noticed a nearly empty jewelry box.
The affidavit stated police obtained information from a pawn shop database, called Leads Online, that Alva had pawned some of the stolen jewelry.
Alva was booked into jail with bond set at $5,000.
