A New Albany, Indiana man is the latest person arrested by Louisville Metro Police in an ongoing investigation of thefts from Home Depot stores.
An arrest report says Jon P. Speedy, 52, was involved in stealing merchandise from the store, then returning it without a receipt and receiving the cash value on a gift card. The gift card would then be sold for less than its value.
Police said Speedy gave them recorded statement on two separate occasions and implicating two other people. Speedy told police was he was doing to to support his heroin addiction.
According to detectives, Speedy is responsible for more than $33,000 in fraudulently obtained gift cards.
Speedy was arrested on November 14 at the Hall of Justice. He is charged with engaging in organized crime, theft by unlawful taking and criminal trespassing. Police said Speedy had previously been banned from all Home Depot stores.
