Newport News Police use ReportIt to help return stolen electronics

By Joe Flanagan

October 11, 2013

Newport News Police want to encourage citizens to register their electronic equipment online as part of a national program called LeadsOnline.

The program helps local Pawn Shops, which are required to record serial numbers on electronic items, return stolen items to the rightful owner.

Newport News detective Sophat Nou is encouraging citizens to go to the site, ReportIt.Leadsonline.com, and register their devices.

"Our local site is known as 'Report It' and it is tied into 'Leads on Line' nationally. You can even add photos as well as ID numbers," said Nou.
