A Dunbar man pawned several items stolen from two homes last week, police said.
Shawn Allen Holcomb, 27, was charged Friday with two counts of burglary and two counts of transferring and receiving stolen property, Dunbar Police Chief Jesse Bailes said.
On Jan. 24, detectives began investigating laptops, firearms and other valuables stolen from homes on 18th Street and Valley Drive in Dunbar.
Detectives traced the stolen items through the LeadsOnline database and found them at a nearby pawnshop, Bailes said. Further investigation revealed that Holcomb had pawned the stolen items there. He was being held in South Central Regional Jail in lieu of $5,000 bail on Friday.
The Dunbar Police Department is partnering with the Kanawha County Sheriff's Department's Bureau of Investigations, Bailes said, which granted them access to the LeadsOnline system. Pawn storeowners are required to enter their customers' information into the system to track the exchange of items.
